Getting There

The closest airport is Faro (45min drive to the Vida Mar hotel) and this is the airport that we recommend you fly into. The other option is Lisbon which is a 2hr drive away. On arrival into Faro, the airport is currently under reconstruction, please allow yourself enough time to find your way in or out of the airport; leave plenty of time. The airport is tiny so it can get busy, especially when you're leaving. Our recommendation when leaving Faro is not to try to eat / drink once you're through luggage scanning, go through passport control as there is a costa coffee etc. on the other side and it's less busy.

We highly recommend if you are travelling by plane to take your most important items with you in hand luggage, just in case suitcases go missing - hopefully it won't, but better to be prepared than be stuck wearing the same outfit for 3 days!

The main event (wedding reception 11th June) will take place at the Vida Mar Resort, about a 10min drive from Albufeira (away from the airport), near Evaristo.

If you're flying into Faro and would like to hire a car, we highly recommend Zit Auto. You collect the car from the car park outside the main entrance and their prices are very reasonable (they are located in Zone 4) which is in the top left hand corner of the parking directly outside of the airport. Do let us know and we can put you in touch with our contact, reference the Jay wedding and you should get a discount. Once here, you shouldn't need a car to attend any of the events, it's just if you'd like to explore or if you don't want to get a taxi from the airport.

Getting to and from the airport using the local taxis is very easy, there is a taxi rank outside the airport and they are all official taxis. The cost to the Vida Mar hotel will be around 70 euros and take around 45-60mins. If you'd like more information on getting to the venue then Trip advisor have some additional advice.
If you are driving, please be aware that the Route 22 has a toll, it is the fast journey as it is a new motorway but you will need to go to a post office to pay the toll (annoyingly the car hire places won't do it for you).
The alternate road, N125 currently has lots of road works so if you are going to take the longer route, allow plenty of time to get to the airport (we counted x4 one way traffic lights which held us up by 30mins).
